Some stories begin in silence...
This is the book I never imagined I would write and yet the one I couldn’t keep inside. It came from silence. From hospital walls and waiting rooms. From screaming in ways no one else could hear. From grief that had nowhere else to go.
When There’s No Amen is a memoir of love, loss, and the slow, unsteady steps toward light after the darkest nights. It’s for anyone who has faced the kind of grief that changes you forever and for those who love them.

About Kayla Brooks
The author is a mother, an executive, certified professional life coach, and a woman who once knew God intimately, and then didn’t. In “When There’s No Amen”, she shares a deeply personal journey of loss, unbelief, and love after faith. With honesty and vulnerability, she gives voice to those navigating grief without spiritual clichés, and to those who live full lives outside the bounds of belief.
A former church leader and lifelong participant in faith-centered communities, she now writes from the quiet space that grief and questioning created. She is raising her daughter with care, intention, and integrity without relying on the belief system she once embraced.
She writes for anyone who’s ever felt out of place in a prayer circle, anyone who's ever whispered doubt while being told to “trust God,” and anyone who’s had to rebuild themselves from heartbreak without a faith to fall back on.
She lives on the edge of belief and disbelief and knows she’s not alone there.
